Beach Fossils

Roseland Theater
Three times I've had the honor of seeing Beach Fossils. From the Holocene in 2017, Polaris Hall in 2021 to the Roseland Theater this month in 2023 on November 10th. Being able to see these artists grow their art over the last 6 years has been inspiring. We all grow as people and it can feel like our favorite bands make soundtracks to the different phases in our lives.
Over the years seeing Beach Fossils live is like visiting those moments in the past. Their sound continues to grow and change in a way that feels like you are still at home.
On this night at the Roseland Theater, the setlist was a well-crafted blend of tracks from their latest album and beloved classics. Songs like "Sugar," "Saint Ivy," and "May 1st" grabbed the audience and wrapped around them pulling them into the set. From Dustin Payseur hauntingly melodic vocals putting the audience in a trance-like state, Jack Doyle Smith's guitar work weaved intricate patterns that added layers of complexity to each song. The rhythm section, anchored by Tommy Davidson on bass and Anton Hochheim on drums, provided a solid foundation, ensuring the songs ebbed and flowed.
In retrospect, Beach Fossils' live performance is more than a concert—it was an emotional landscape of their discography. I look forward to seeing what else these artists create and how far they go.
